Fabric Samples - 85.3.101 to 85.3.199 are almost all small fabric samples tacked to 8x10" cards. They are all numbered individually and have catalog cards in card file in curator's office, though data on cards is sparse. Many numbers have multiple swatches within each number (a, b, c, etc.) Larger samples have been entered into this database individually. All have been photographed. Shawl 95.12.1
Shawl. Beige with multicolored design with gold threads. Handspun singles, cotton, motifs are inlayed with multiple strands of cotton singles, hand embroidered multicolor and metal threads. Fringed on both ends. Lottie Speth purchased this in Yugoslavia in the 1970s. At the time the shop keepers were reluctant to sell it to her because it was old - she has no idea when it was made. Four panels of color gamp. Each panel arranged in four vertical rows of squares of color weft inlay in Theo Moorman technique. Each panel shows variations in tone tint of one predominant color, eg. yellow. Occasional metallic threads included.
