Long red and white woolen sampler of twill variations. Sampler divided into three vertical rows of twill variation blocks. Warp yarns are: left third - white; middle and right third - red and white. Weft yarns are the same natural white and dyed red of warp. White yarn is thick natural white wool plied with thin cotton thread. Red yarn is two ply S twist wool. Two selvedges and two fringed ends. Fringe is knotted at one end. Paper tag with blue ink handwritten notes: "Warp 356 / Threading - Straight Draw / Treadling - all split / reg. Small wall hanging, predominantly green with some yellow. Central design motif is wedding-cake-like shape of space denting, leno and plain weave. Border is highly textured floss and boucle. Overall structure is double weave. Two selvedges and two hemmed edges. Upper hem is rod pocket with metal hanging hardware. Hanging consists of natural linen background in plain weave with half Dukagang inlay of geometric shapes in horizontal rows. Multicolored shapes include hearts, crosses, and zig zags. Grey and black shawl with long fringe on two sides. Very gradual gradation from black through dark to light grey across width of shawl.
